In today's post I would like to describe the president's inauguration day. The president's inauguration under the twentieth amendment to the constitution takes place at noon on January 20. Until 1937, it was held on March 4 because earlier more time was needed to count the votes. This amendment also combined the oaths of VP with the presidential, which are led by a chief judge of the Supreme Court.  There is also a ball and a parade on the inaugural day. The invocation is read and the blessing given by representatives of different religions. Since 1981, swearing- in are held on the Western Front of the Capitol. The sworn president also gives an address to the nation. The longest was delivered in 1841 by William Henry Harrison (8,445 words), and the shortest by George Washington which said only 135 words when he began his second term.  In this post, I would like to describe what animals represent US political parties. The symbol of the democratic party is the donkey. This began in 1828 when the Democratic presidential candidate Andrew Jackson was nicknamed "jackass". Jackson later used it in election poster because he was amused by the nickname. The symbol of the Republican Party is the elephant. It is commonly believed that the reason was the phrase from the times of the civil war 'to see an elephant' which meant to experience the battle. It was popularized by Thomas Nast, who portrayed the Party as an elephant in his cartoon 'Third Term Panic'. Nast is considered a precursor to political cartoons, who later also used the donkey as a symbol of the Democrats. Today, the libertarian party is also trying to promote 'its animal' - the porcupine. They argue that porcupines, like libertarians, are not aggressive if their freedom is not violated.  Source: https://www.history.com/news/how-...
In today's post I would like to describe the history of the election day in the USA. In 1845 Congress unified the election day for all states. Previously elections could take place within 34 days before the first Wednesday of December.  This change was made because of developing the telegraph in America, election results from one state could influence the votes of others.  It was decided that the elections should be held in November due to still relatively good weather and end of the harvest, which was crucial because then USA was still a strongly agricultural state.  Tuesday was chosen as voting day so voters could go to church on Sunday, arrive at the voting place (usually in a large city) on Monday, and vote ahead of Wednesday, which was a trading day for farmers. The change initially applied only to the presidential election later it was extended. Since then, elections in the states have been held every two years on the first Tuesday after November 1. In today's post, I would like to describe who the American politicians referred to as RINO or DINO are. The acronym RINO stands for Republican In Name Only. It is used to describe politicians whose views are not conservative or simply  different from the current party line . Similarly, DINO is used to define people who, despite belonging to a democratic party, have at least some conservative views.  The fact that such persons exist results mainly from the majority electoral law that is in force in the USA and forces parties to represent a wide range of views. RINO or DINO may also be people who, due to failures in the opposite party moved to the other party or represent a given party in a state that has long been ruled by the opposing party. The person generally regarded as RINO was the Republican presidential candidate in 2008 John McCain, while the DINO was called Joe Lieberman, Al Gore running mate in 2000 presidential elections.
